Every claim we take is paid for by someone else

We don’t charge the people we help, and we don’t take a share of their back pay. Grants from foundations and the state bar’s public-interest fund pay most of our costs. Gifts from people in the valley pay the rest, and they’re what let us say yes to the claims that pay least.

  • Medical records for a claim: often $50 to $150

  • An expert’s written opinion: more

  • A year of a staff lawyer: most of it

A gift once or every month. Gifts to a 501(c)(3) are usually tax-deductible; ask your tax adviser.

  • Volunteer, if you’re a lawyer

Take a hearing a year with one of us beside you. We train you on the rules and the forms first.

  • Send people our way

Doctors, social workers, librarians and veterans’ groups refer most of the people we help.
